Generic Actonel Risedronate: A familiar name in osteoporosis
Indications
Generic Actonel risedronate is applied in the prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis and glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in men & women. It is also helpful in increasing bone mass in men with osteoporosis. Paget's disease of bone is also treated with it.
How to Use
For using this medication follow the instructions provided by your doctor. Your doctor will determine whether to take this daily or to take this weekly, depending on the strength of the tablet. Take Generic Actonel risedronate tablet at least 30 minutes before the first food or drink of the day. To avoid the risk of stomach side effects, take this tablet in an upright position with a full glass (6-8 oz or 180-240 ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Don’t use milk or any other drink while taking medicine. Only plain water is needed for this. After taking Generic Actonel risedronate, do not lie down for at least 30 minutes. If you have to take calcium or iron supplements, sucralfate, vitamins with minerals, milk, as well as antacids containing calcium, magnesium or aluminum take these products at least 2 hours after taking risedronate. These products may obstruct with the absorption of this medication. It is important to take the other medications prescribed for your condition (e.g., calcium supplements and Vitamin D) as directed by your doctor.
Interactions
Many drugs interact by the use of other drug. Therefore you should inform your physician before starting any new drug. Your health care provider may suggest dosage adjustment or tell you to take other drug at a different time.
The following drugs may interact with Actonel:
• Calcium supplements
• Iron supplements
• NSAIDs, medicines for pain and inflammation, like ibuprofen or naproxen
thyroid hormones
• Vitamins with minerals
• Antacids like aluminum hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide
• Aspirin
The list given above may not contain all possible interactions. Ask your doctor about all other drug interaction that may cause due to your medicines.
What side effects may occur?
Side effects occur in rare case. However If you observe or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can decide if it is safe for you to carry on taking this medication.
Some of the side effects may be: joint pain, muscle pain, nausea, nerve pain
abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, flu symptoms, general aches and pain, headache, high blood pressure, indigestion and infection.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If you take Actonel tablets once a week, or once or twice per month: If you don’t remember to take Actonel on your scheduled day, take it first thing in the morning on the day after you remember the missed dose. Then carry on your regular weekly schedule on your chosen dose day. Do not take two 2 tablets in one day.
What happens if I overdose?
In case you overdose, go to your doctor immediately. Drink a full glass of milk and call your local poison control center or emergency room without delay. Do not make yourself vomit and do not lie down.
