Generic Actonel Risedronate

Generic actonel risedronatetablets are pyridinyl bisphosphonate that obstructs osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and modulates bone metabolism. Each ACTONEL tablet for oral administration has the equivalent of 5, 30, 35, 75, or 150 mg of anhydrous risedronate sodium in the form of the hemi-pentahydrate with little monohydrate.

Uses

• Generic actonel risedronateis indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. In postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, ACTONEL reduces the incidence of vertebral fractures and a composite endpoint of nonvertebral osteoporosis-related fractures.
• It treats to enhance bone mass in men with osteoporosis.
• It also treats and prevents of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in men and women who are either initiating or continuing systemic glucocorticoid treatment (daily dosage of ≥ 7.5 mg prednisone or equivalent) for chronic diseases. Patients treated with glucocorticoids should take ample amounts of calcium and vitamin D.
• It is also useful in Paget's disease of bone in men and women.

Dosage

Generic actonel risedronateis available in different dosage forms such as 5 mg, 30 mg, 35 mg, 75 mg and 150 mg. You can take dosage as suggested by your physician.

Important Information about Actonel

Generic actonel risedronate should be taken in an upright condition. The patient should not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this medication. Actonel can cause serious problems in the stomach or esophagus (the tube that connects your mouth and stomach). You will need to stay upright for at least 30 minutes after taking this medication.

The Actonel tablet should be taken in the morning, at least 30 minutes before you eat or drink anything or take any other medicine.

Take each dose with a full glass of water. Use only plain water (not mineral water) when taking a Actonel tablet.

For at least the first 30 minutes after taking an Actonel tablet, do not eat or drink anything other than plain water; and do not take any other medicines including vitamins, calcium, or antacids.

If you take Actonel tablets once daily: If you forget to take this medicine first thing in the morning, do not take it later in the day. Stay until the next morning to take the medicine and skip the missed dose. Do not take two tablets in one day.

Generic actonel risedronate is only part of a complete program of treatment that may also include diet changes, exercise, and taking calcium and vitamin supplements. Follow your diet, medication, and exercise routines very closely.

Side Effects

Some common side effects of using generic actonel risedronate are bone, muscle, or joint pain, changes in taste, diarrhea or constipation, eye pain or itching, headache, nausea or vomiting and stomach gas or fullness.

Besides the above common side effects, there are some other side effects that require immediate report to your doctor:

• jaw pain, especially after dental work
• pain or difficulty when swallowing
• redness, blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
• allergic reactions like skin rash or itching, hives, swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue
• black or tarry stools
• changes in vision
• heartburn or stomach pain
