Why is Generic Actonel Risedronate Prescribed?

 

Actonel slows down the loss of calcium from bones. It is prescribed for postmenopausal women. It not only prevents osteoporosis but also strengthens the bones. Actonel is also stops or treats osteoporosis causing by therapy with steroid medications, and it also works in the treatment of Paget's disease, a condition in which patches of bone become soft and enlarged.

Mechanism       

Bone tissue is naturally produced and resorbed by the body. In case of osteoporosis, the mechanism that generates bone tissue does not work well. Generic Actonel Risedronatecan be used to balance this by dropping the rate of bone resorbtion, leading to increase in bone density.         

Drug Interactions

Since g eneric Actonel Risedronatecan cause serious drug interaction therefore give your health care provider a list of all the medicines, herbs, non-prescription drugs, or dietary supplements you use. Inform him if you are taking: aspirin and NSAIDs (e.g., ibuprofen, naproxen), iron supplements, vitamins with minerals, sucralfate, antacids (mainly those holding calcium, magnesium or aluminum), calcium supplements. Test the label on all nonprescription pain relievers, as they may contain pain relievers/fever reducers such as aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen. Seek advice from your pharmacist about the safe use of those products. This medication may impede with certain medical tests. Ensure that laboratory and medical personnel know that you are using this drug. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist consent.   

Actonel Side Effects    

As with any osteoporosis drugs, g eneric Actonel Risedronatealso may cause several mild or severe side effects. A number of side effects can be named as hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Seek urgent medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: chest pain; difficulty or pain when swallowing; pain or burning under the ribs or in the back; new or worsening heartburn; severe joint, bone, or muscle pain; or jaw pain, numbness, or swelling. Stop using Actonel and call your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:

Less serious side effects may take account of:

  • mild joint or back pain; or
  • headache 
  • mild heartburn or stomach upset;
  • diarrhea, gas, or constipation;

Why should Actonel not be prescribed?    

Generic Actonel risedronatecan’t be right for you if you have low calcium levels in your blood or the drug gives you an allergic reaction. Just do not take Actonel if you are unable to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the drug. In addition, the drug is not recommended for people with severe kidney disease.
